Adult Kung Fu Training
The foundation curriculum of our Adult Kung Fu Program covered the White through Black Sash Levels and offers an in-depth study and practice of various elements of the Chinese martial art style known as Northern Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu. (Shaolin Chang Chuan Gung Fu) Shaolin Long Fist covers all aspects of hand to hand combat such as Chinese boxing, and the close in combative techniques of Chinese Chin Na (joint splitting) and Shuai Jiao (Chinese wrestling) throws and take downs.
Each level of training also contains a set of simple defensive techniques that students were required to learn. We call these techniques "Fighting Combinations". Fighting Combinations are used as a systematic approach to the instruction of self defense and self defense theory. These techniques are used to teach defensive action to some of the most common attacks found in combative situations. Students should not only learn these set techniques, but also examine all the aspects of their training for the hidden utility of the many endless techniques contained within the style of Shaolin Long Fist and how to apply them.
Adult Kung Fu Classes will generally include, but are not limited to; warm up exercises, stretching, Chinese calisthenics, body conditioning, and strength building exercises. Classes also cover the study and practice of any given area of external martial arts such as fundamental Technique Practice (basics & combination training), Self Defense, Chin Na, Shuai Jiao, Kung Fu Forms Practice with applications and development, as well as fundamental Chinese combat theory and application.
Martial Arts Sport Class:
This program serves as a complement to traditional martial arts training. It is important to know the difference between sport and self defense training. The Martial Sports Class is dedicated to the sport fighting aspect of the martial arts or the non-dangerous aspect that has become popular in modern western culture. In this class, there are several aspects of the sport world that might be focused on, such as: Tournament Point Sparring, Boxing, Fundamental American & Muay Thai Kickboxing, Throwing, and Grappling. Classes that focus on these methods and stress the use in competition are not dedicated to real life self defense, actual hand to hand combat or health training and is purely dedicated to introducing and training students in the sport martial arts.
Modern Weapons & Self Defense Class:
This is often an Adults Only class that is used to educate the students in the proper use and defense of modern day weapons such as the Pocket Knife, Baton, Firearms, Mace and impromptu weaponry as well as the correct ideals of self defense. Students will often learn the fundamentals of martial arts such as basic striking, as well as defensive firearm tactics, along with restraining and disabling combative techniques. Perfect class for individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or people with self defense concerns. To be good at self defense one must continue to practice what is instructed. Taking a couple of courses will not make you proficient in defense training, rather will give you an idea of how to defend yourself. More complete training should be sought out.
The instructors of the Center have many years of experience in many different arts and styles separate from the foundation curriculum. For information on some of these styles click here.
